Any time is a good time to visit Nusa Lembongan although the rainy season in Bali is for real! Expect frequent showers from December through February. I visited the island in March and found the weather to be nice but the traffic and main streets to be hectic.

You can take the speed boat from Sanur, on the east side of Bali, and the boat ride will take about 45 minutes. Another way is to travel to Nusa Lembongan first if you're staying on that island and have a day trip to Nusa Penida. Nusa Lembongan Itinerary - Day 1. Your day will start with a pick up from your hotel at about 7.30am, depending upon where you are staying. If you are around the Kuta area, you can expect this time. If you are at Uluwatu or Ubud, pick up would be around 7am, but if you are in Sanur, you can catch an extra hour of sleep.
I've been dreaming about visiting Nusa Penida for a long time. Nusa Penida is a beautiful island southeast of Bali, next to Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. It is still relatively unknown as many tourists choose to stay in Bali during their holidays. It takes approximately 40 minutes by boat from Nusa Dua Harbor to get to the island.
Nusa Lembongan is just one of the three Nusa islands (Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Cenigan), (Nusa Penida is gorgeous and well-worth a day trip We will visit for ~10 nights mid-end June 2020 for our honeymoon. We're thinking Seminayak 4 nights, then Ubud 2 nights, then candi dusa 4 nights.
Agree with the others that it's safe , but always be careful. Although I haven't been there alone, but travelled many times with my family and walked a lot alone during the day and at night. Depending where your accommodation is, do be careful going down the little lanes. Love Nusa Lembongan, also Cenigan is worth a visit.
